DRAW BRIDGE is a presentation of the work of Jane Ward and Lucinda Metcalfe, exploring the bridge as a symbol of connectivity by promising an experience of another place. Traditionally we experience bridges by traveling over them, getting a snapshot of what lies below, above and beyond. We are suspended between one place and another, held secure in the air in a place of interim enjoying the ride. Bridges hold the promise of getting to another place, built often to aid industry and the transport of goods, there is also an industrial element to their construction and use. The geometry of the suspension bridge is a thing of beauty and strength, whilst the dominant appearance of a viaduct looks like a giant, looping over the rural landscape. Bridges present the perfect literal and metaphorical subject for the artist.
